Sheriff Hodgson speaks at RNC

Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson spoke on behalf of Massachusetts at the Republican National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina on Monday.

During his brief appearance, Hodgson announced President Donald Trump had received all of the commonwealth's delegate votes during the convention’s roll call.

In his remarks, Hodgson — who is the honorary chairman for Trump’s reelection campaign in Massachusetts — likened the president to patriots Samuel Adams and Benjamin Franklin, saying they “acted to preserve our liberties and our constitution.”

“In keeping with our long history of patriots... Massachusetts proudly and enthusiastically casts our 41 votes for one of the greatest patriots in the history of this nation, our president Donald Trump,” Hodgson said.

The roll call, held in a sparsely filled ballroom at the Charlotte Convention Center, was largely a formality, since Trump won all but one of the delegates in this year's primaries.

In Dartmouth, President Trump steamrolled the competition, picking up 1,017 votes, over 90 percent of the 1,121 Republican votes cast in town.
