Sign your kids up for Parks and Recreation summer programming

Summer is just around the corner, and after a year away, summer recreation programs will make a return for 2021.

Registration for all programs will begin May 3. Switching to another program or week is not permitted once that program has been filled.  

A copy of your child's physical must be presented at time of registration along with a parent packet. Parent packets may be printed from the Parks and Recreation website at www.town.dartmouth.ma.us/sites/g/files/vyhlif466/f/uploads/parent_packet_covid.pdf ahead of time for quicker registration. Here’s what the Parks department will offer this summer.

Cushman Playground Center

From June  through Aug. 20, kids aged 7 to 12 can make new friends and play at the Cushman School playground center at 746 Dartmouth St. Hours will run 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

Enrollment is limited to 36 children. The registration fee is $90. For a second child, the fee is $85, and $75 to signup a third.

Quinn Playground Center

From June  through Aug. 20, kids aged 7 to 12 can make new friends and play at the Quinn Elementary playground center at 592 Hawthorn St. Hours will run 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

Enrollment is limited to 36 children. The registration fee is $90. For a second child, the fee is $85, and $75 to signup a third.

“Descendants 3” Theatre Class

In this class, kids aged 5-15 will audition for a role in the musical “Mal’s Medley Excerpts 3.”  The play has been rewritten along the theme of the 2019 musical fantasy “Descendants 3.”

This class will run from July 5 through 9, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The registration fee is $150.

“Frozen 2” Theatre Class

In this class, boys and girls will audition for a role in the musical “Elsa’s Medley Excerpts 2.” The play has been rewritten along the theme of the original “Frozen 2.”

Children will sing, dance, and act their way into a world of excitement. Students should bring snacks, drinks and a lunch. Costumes are encouraged, but not necessary.

This class will run from July 19 through 23, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The registration fee is $150.

Golf lessons

Golfers aged 7 to 13 will be given a one-hour lesson taught by a Professional Golfer from Allendale Country Club on Thursdays.

Allendale Country Club has a dress code, so children must dress appropriately — no jeans or jean shorts, t-shirts, swim wear or gym clothing.

Golf clubs will be provided, but golfers can bring their own.

This program will run from June 24 to July 29. Beginners will tee off at 8 a.m., with more experienced newbies starting at 9 a.m. The registration fee is $90.

Outside the Lines art

Those in first through sixth grade will spend a week creating unique art projects, playing games, and meeting some new friends at the former library at 1383 Tucker Rd.

The aspiring artists will explore watercolor, collage and other media they can bring back home.

Paddle Sports

Experienced certified instructors from Osprey Sea & Surf are teaming up with Dartmouth Recreation to offer Kayak and Stand Up Paddleboard programs. 

All classes emphasize fun and safety on the water. 

Life vests must be worn by all participants.  All necessary equipment will be provided.

Introduction to tennis

Each participant will be given a one and a half hour lesson per week for six weeks instructed by Jesse Gotlib, a USPTA certified tennis professional. The sport will be played at Dartmouth High on a smaller court with a slower ball and a paddle instead of a racket.

All equipment will be provided.

This class will run from July 5 through Aug. 9, 9:30 to 11 a.m. The registration fee is $140.
