Softball team donates toys for Christmas
The Dartmouth Girls Athletic League’s travel team donated more than 80 toys to the UMass Dartmouth Police Department’s toy drive.
The idea came from Lt. Michael Reynolds of the UMASS Dartmouth Police Department, who is also the head coach of the Dartmouth Dynamites softball team for ages ten and under. To help spread Christmas cheer and give back to his team, Reynolds struck a deal with his players and their parents.
The deal was that if each parent would donate a toy to the UMASS Police Department’s toy drive, he would buy his team an indoor strength and conditioning session. The plan was a success and on Monday, Dec. 4, his team dropped off nearly 80 toys at the police department’s toy drive. All told, the police department donates toys to over 1000 local children each year.
