Spyridon ‘Spiro’ D. Karafotis, 80

Spyridon “Spiro” D. Karafotis, 80, of Dartmouth passed away Friday, April 5, 2019 in his home surrounded by family.

He was the husband of Carol (Brady) Karafotis with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.

Born in Lesvos, Greece, the son of the late Demetrios and Kalliope (Kiniklis) Karafotis he came to America when he was sixteen years old with his mother and sister.

When of age, Mr. Karafotis joined the United States Air Force and served for four years. After his discharge, he worked as an electrician and became a member of IBEW Local 223 until his retirement.

He was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church.

Spiro loved spending time with his family and friends. His grandchildren were the light of his life.

During holidays, you could find him sitting around the table playing family games with his children and grandchildren.

In his free time he enjoyed traveling, and using his skills to help friends and family with jobs around the home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Michael S. Karafotis and his wife Monica of Glen Allen, VA; a daughter, Catherine Rutkowski of Dartmouth; a sister, Helen Kronteres and her husband James of Dartmouth; a brother-in-law Steven Brady and his wife Cathleen of New York; and his eight grandchildren, Max, Page, Jonah, Quinn, Niall, Libbie, Kaylin, and Sophia.

Spiro is also survived by several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

His funeral mass will be Wednesday, April 10 at 11 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 186 Cross Rd., Dartmouth. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Waring-Sullivan Home at 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth.
