Feb 27, 2019

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in New Bedford are teaming up to commemorate Ash Wednesday on March 6 with “Ashes to Go.” The program is an opportunity for the parish to meet people where they are, and to make it easy for people to participate in Ash Wednesday during the work day.

Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent. In a release, St. Peter’s invited everyone to attend regardless of faith tradition, family or marital situations, sexual orientation, race, creed, gender or life story.

From 10 a.m. to noon, ashes will be available in the parking lot of St. Martin’s at 136 Rivet St., New Bedford. From 12:15 to 12:30, there will be a brief Ash Wednesday service, including the Liturgy of the Work and Imposition of Ashes at St. Martin’s.

From 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., ashes will be available at the front doors of Big Value Outlet, 718 Dartmouth St. At 7 p.m., there will be a Service of the Holy Eucharist with the Imposition of Ashes offered at St. Peter’s, 351 Elm St., with music provided by the St. Peter’s Contemporary Folk Group.
