Sunday Afternoon Lecture Series presents 'Documenting Dartmouth: The Images of Theodosia Potter Chase'
On Sunday, August 19, the Dartmouth Historical and Arts Society’s Sunday Afternoon Lecture series will present “Documenting Dartmouth: The Images of Theodosia Potter Chase.” Judy Lund will give an illustrated lecture about the life and work of Theodosia Potter Chase, a librarian at the Old Southworth Library in Padanaram who sold photo postcards of life on the South Coast. She was also a painter, and eventually opened her own studio on Hamilton Street behind the New Bedford Whaling Museum. Her postcards include views of Padanaram, Nonquitt, Salters Point, and the New Bedford waterfront. Chase worked as a commercial photographer until she was 90, and continued to paint and sketch until the end of her life.
The lecture will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Russells Mills Schoolhouse at 1205 Russells Mills Road. The public is invited, and light refreshments will be served. A donation of $5 is suggested.
