Get the what's what on immigration.
The University of Massachusetts's law school will host a panel discussion on refugees and sanctuary cities, 10 a.m.–1:30 p.m., at 333 Faunce Corner Road. Speakers include Somerville Mayor Joseph Curatone, Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson, Newton Councilwoman Emily Norton, and Sarand Sekhavat from the Massachusetts Immigration and Refugee Advocacy Coalition.
Friday, April 7
Experience Cape Verdean culture.
Cape Verdean Cultural Day will kick off at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth with a speech from Carlos Wahnon Veiga, ambassador of Cape Verde to the United States at 3 p.m. Tickets are required for entrance; email Aruedy Dias at adias3@umass.edu. Visit calendar.umassd.edu for more details.

Rock out.
Folk-rock group, The Gnomes, will perform at 7 p.m. at the Grange Hall, located at 1133 Fisher Road. Tickets are $15 per person; $12 for kids (under 18), seniors (over 60), and college students. Baseball EDU will host the Major League Baseball-sponsored Pitch, Hit and Run event at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth field, 12-3 p.m. The event is a free, one-day skills competition for boys and girls, ages 7-14, and includes Baseball and Softball Divisions. Explore a vernal pool.
Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust and the Buzzards Bay Coalition will lead a hike to a vernal pool at Parsons Reserve at 10 a.m. for search for inhabitants, including frogs and salamanders. Sunday, April 9
Get magical.
Emmy-award nominated magician Matt Roberts will show off his comedic routine at 2 p.m. at Dartmouth Middle School. His lineup, appropriate for all ages, will feature illusions, clean comedy and sleight-of-hand tricks, and audience participation. Tickets are $10. They can be purchased at dartmouthdogpark.org. Tickets will also be available at the door. Proceeds benefit the Dartmouth Dog Advisory Work Group (DDAWG).
Sip some soup.
The Dartmouth YMCA will host its Simple Soup Social to benefit the Sharing the Harvest Community Farm, 2-4 p.m., at the Y's 276 Gulf Road location. Tickets are $20 for an individual, or $50 for a family of four. The event includes soups, sandwiches, and drinks, and a tour of the farm. Remember the Gidley School.
The Dartmouth Historical and Arts Society’s Bob Harding and Gidley School alumni will present the history and memories of the former elementary school. All former Gidley students, teachers, and staff are invited to attend and share their memories. The discussion starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Russells Mills Schoolhouse, 1205 Russells Mills Road.
