Things to do at the Council on Aging in November

The Dartmouth Council on Aging has announced its listing of November events.

Health and Wellness

The Center’s “Throw a Punch at Parkinson’s” boxing exercise program continues on Tuesdays from 1 to 2 p.m. Call the Center for more information.

Bay State Physical Therapy will offer a new pain screening program on the second Thursday of the month from 1 to 2 p.m. by appointment.

Registered dietician Katlynn Ferreira will offer free private nutritional consolations on the second Tuesday of the month, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. by appointment.

Monthly hearing evaluations will be provided on November 21, 10-12 p.m. by appointment.

Free blood pressure clinics will be offered on the second and last Fridays of the month from 9 a.m; to 10 a.m. Walk-ins are welcome.

A lower back workshop will be held November 4, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and will include instruction to keep lower backs strong, flexible, and injury free. The cost is $15.

Learn what to do after a hospital stay at a talk on November 5, 1 p.m.

Get help with Medicare open enrollment with a local independent broker who will review supplemental programs and options on November 7, 3:30 p.m. Walk-ins welcome.

Dance for Parkinson’s at a special program encouraging movement and music. The program will be held Mondays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. starting on November 25. It is free to attend and caregivers are welcome.

Arts and Entertainment

This month’s November Matinee is “The Big Sick,” and will be held on November 14 at 1:30 p.m. Sign-up is required. Popcorn will be provided for free.

Enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings on November 21 at 12 p.m. The cost is $5. It will include entertainment by Chris Water.

Educational Programs

Learn about the world through the eyes of international students at a UMass Dartmouth International Speaker Series. This month’s talk will be held on November 12, 4 p.m. by students from Pakistan and Vietnam.

A cannabis forum will be held on November 13, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Learn about cannabis, CBD, and obtaining a medical card. The cost is $5 and pre-registration is required.

Staff from the Dartmouth Town Assessors Office will host a breakfast on November 14 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Topics will include tax exemptions and options available to seniors who own their own homes.

A class on caregiver stress will be held on November 18, 11 a.m.
