Treat your inner book worm.
The Friends of the Dartmouth Libraries will run a book sale at the Southworth Library, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The sale will also continue on Saturday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Books in many genres, as well as CDs, DVDs, and jigsaw puzzles will be on sale.
Donate to a cause.
Southcoast GRIT will be collecting donations at Dartmouth High School, 2:15-5 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Town Hall Saturday. Each pound of items donated - clothing, jewelry, accessories, handbags, shoes, and linens - will benefit the Dartmouth High after-school program which trains students to run a marathon. Get spooked.
Burgo Basketball Association will host two Halloween events. A kids Halloween party will be held on Saturday, 3-6 p.m. The event will include games, trick-or-treating, a live DJ, costume contests, and a walk through a maze. A nighttime haunted maze event will be held on Friday and Saturday, 7-10 p.m. The cost to attend either the maze or the Halloween party is $10 per person or child. Discover nature.
The Lloyd Center will host its Nature Discoveries drop-in program at 9:30 a.m. at its Potoskoma Road location. The event, which includes readings of nature-themed books and explorations of the Lloyd Center, along with animal demonstrations, specimen examination, hikes, and other activities, is suited for children ages 2-6. Get into fall spirit.
St. Peter's Episcopal Church will host its Fall Harvest Fair, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The event will be held at Rex Field, located across the street from the church's 351 Elm Street location. Activities will include craft vendors, children's activities, face painting, a bake sale, and raffles. Celebrate star athletes.
Enjoy a concert.
Taylor Cormier will be hosting a tribute concert with music from Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Tony Bennett at St. Julie's Billiart Church at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 and light snakes and beverages will be served. Honor athletes.
Bishop Stang will inaugurate its first batch of Athletic Hall of Fame inductees at a ceremony at White's Of Westport, 6 p.m. Inductees include four coaches: William Hart, James B. Lanagan, Jr, and posthumous inductions for Theresa Dougall and John C. O'Brien. Inducted teams are the 1964 varsity football team and the 1983 field hockey team. Shop and learn about education resources.
The Dartmouth Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) will host its annual Community Resource and Craft Fair at Dartmouth High School, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. In addition to craft vendors selling homemade gifts and decorations, organizations providing resources for students and parents will also be on site. All proceeds benefit SEPAC and Dartmouth High’s unified athletics programs.
Monday, October 23
Explore nature.
The next Puddle Jumpers event will be at 11 a.m. at Wernick Farm, 1530 North Hixville Road. The joint program hosted Mondays in October by Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust and Buttonwood Park Zoo is intended to give preschoolers a safe space to explore the natural world. The cost to attend is $14 per child for zoo members and $22 per child for non-members. Visit bpzoo.org to register.
Hear from an author.
Best-selling author William Alexander will speak at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth library at 4 p.m. He will discuss his books, which includes his book documenting his lifelong dream to learn the French language, and his memoir. A question and answers book signing, and light reception will follow the program. It is free and open to the public. Parking is available on campus in lot 13.
