There’s a lot happening in Dartmouth on any given week.

Thursday, Aug. 26

Preparing for school year 

The Friends of the Dartmouth Libraries will be hosting a virtual presentation to prepare children for the upcoming school year amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26.

Dartmouth Youth Advocate Deloris Joseph will share strategies on how to talk about returning to school this fall, how to identify feelings of anxiety or stress, and ways to address those feelings among our children.

This virtual presentation requires pre-registration at www.tinyurl.com/DartmouthSchool. Audience members must sign up with an email address to receive a Zoom code.

Friday, Aug. 27

Art show 

A summer exhibition featuring a juried show open to all two-dimensional artwork will open with an exhibition from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27 at the Dartmouth Cultural Center, 404 Elm St.

The exhibition will remain on display through Sept. 18.

Brews & Tunes 

Brews & Tunes will host its final show of the season Friday, Aug. 27 at the South Wharf Yacht Yard and Marina at 218 Elm St. The show will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.

Live music will be performed by the Northern Fried Band. There will be food and brews, Truly Seltzer from Sam Adams also served.

An optional admission fee will benefit Dartmouth Cultural Center. 

Beverage tickets will be available for purchase with cash or card.

Saturday, Aug. 26

Go fly a kite 

The Dartmouth Cultural Council is sponsoring a kite workshop Saturday, Aug. 28 on Apponagansett Beach.

The day begins at 10 a.m. with a presentation on the history of kites. After that, participants will make their own kites. From noon to 1 p.m., along with a bring-your-own lunch, participants will fly their kites over the harbor under the direction of kite expert Gary Engvall. The day ends at 3  p.m. when the kites are reeled in.

The event is appropriate for ages 5 to 12. The class is limited to 20 students and is sponsored by Big Value Outlet.
