Sunday, January 1
Take a long walk on the beach…
Mass Audubon will host a New Year’s Day beach walk, 2-4 p.m. at Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary, 1280 Horseneck Road. Led by volunteer naturalist Doug Hlousek, the free hike will feature diverse natural habitats. Dress for winter weather. To register, visit massaudubon.org, or call (508) 636-2437.

The Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust will also host a New Year’s Day hike. The 9 a.m. walk through the Paskamansett Woods Reserve will begin from the parking area, located on Chase Road, south of the intersection with Old Westport Road and across from Gene Street. Thursday, January 5
Step into the 21st century.
Learn computer basics every Thursday at the Southworth Library, located at 732 Dartmouth Street, 2:30-4:30 p.m. The January 5 and 12 lectures will focus on computer basics. Friday, January 6
Dine with friends.
The Dartmouth Grange will continue its Farmer Film and Potluck with a film showing at 6 p.m. at the Dartmouth Grange Hall, 1133 Fisher Road. Bring a dish to feed at least four guests.
Tuesday, January 10
Tour fine art.
Dartmouth High School’s AP Digital Photography class will present students' work at the Russells Mills Schoolhouse on both January 10 and 11, 3-7 p.m. Head to 1205 Russells Mills Road.
Wednesday, January 11
Join a book club.
The Southworth Library’s Second Wednesday Book Group, which meets on the second Wednesday of each month, will meet from 11 a.m.–12:15 p.m. This month’s book is "Plainsong" by Kent Haruf. For more information contact Sharani Robins at 508-999-0726, ext 377.
Saturday, January 28
Go snowshoeing in the woods…
The Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust will host a 90-minute snowshoe trek through Slocum’s River Reserve at 9 a.m. Dogs are welcomed, but must be leashed. If there is no snow on the ground, the walk will take place on February 11. For more information, visit dnrt.org.

Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary will host a snowshoe hike along the sanctuary's Beach Loop Trail from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Bring your own snowshoes. If there's a lack of snow, a regular winter hike will be held instead at the same date and time. The cost is $10 for Mass Audubon members and $12 for nonmembers. Knit for a cause.
The Dartmouth Grange will host a knitting night to make items for various charities. Head to the Grange Hall, located at 1133 Fisher Road, for 7 p.m. For more information, contact organizer Elizabeth Newton at (508) 636-4920.
