Get honored for your service.
The Dartmouth Friends of the Elderly and state Rep. Chris Markey will host a breakfast for veterans at the Dartmouth Senior Center, 8:30 a.m. The breakfast is free to attend and is open to veterans and their spouses. Reservations are required; call the center at (508) 999-4717 to make reservations.
Eat dinner, and see a movie.
The Dartmouth Grange will host a farmer film and potluck at its 1133 Fisher Road location. The film series will feature the film Finest Kind: The New Bedford Fishing Industry, a locally-produced documentary. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., the potluck starts at 6 p.m., and the movie begins at 6:30 p.m. The potluck is free to attend and open to the public. Attendees are asked to bring a contribution for the potluck meal.
Saturday, November 4
Run, or walk, for a cause.
Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust will host its trail race starting at 11 a.m. at a new location, Destruction Brook Woods on Slades Corner Road. The race will include a 3.3-mile running course and a shorter 2.4-mile walking course. Live music, pizza, and beer on tap will be provided for post-race festivities. The cost to enter the longer race is $25 for DNRT members and $35 for the general public. Visit dnrt.org/trailrace for more information.
Give a hoot.
Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary invites owl fans to its Stone Barn Farm property for a full moon owl prowl, 6-8 p.m. Education on the animals will be offered along with a search of the property for owls. Those attending are asked to dress for an outdoor twilight walk. The cost is $10 per person for Mass Audubon members and $12 for nonmembers. Visit massaudubon.org or call (508) 636-2437 to register. The Humane Society and Shelter - South Coast’s 15th annual Give Me Shelter Gala begins at 6 p.m. at the shelter’s 31 Ventura Drive location. The event will feature a performance from comedian Michael Petit, food and drinks, and live, silent, and Chinese auctions. Tickets are $85 in advance, and $100 at the door. Learn about Dartmouth’s past.
Learn who’s buried at the Apponagansett Meetinghouse Burial Ground with Historical Commission Chair Judy Lund at a Dartmouth Historical and Arts Society lecture, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Russells Mills Schoolhouse. A $5 donation is suggested.
