Work party at Destruction Brook.

Help the Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust maintain the trails at Destruction Brook Woods, located at 2-5 Slades Corner Rd. and tackle some invasive plants growing in the property from 9 a.m. to noon. Please wear pants and closed-toe shoes. Tools, snacks, and coffee will be provided.

Walk back in time.

The Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust is hosting a free archeological walk at Destruction Brook Woods, 205 Slades Corner Rd., from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Join Holly Herbster, Senior Archaeologist at the Public Archaeology Laboratory, Inc, (PAL) for a walk through Destruction Brook Woods to learn about the archaeology of this DNRT property. Learn more about the Native American history of the area, and what the cellar holes and foundations tell us about life in the nineteenth century at this free event. Tag monarch butterflies.

Get to know monarch butterflies at the tagging station at Allens Pond at 1280 Horseneck Rd. from 12 to 3 p.m. At this event, timed to coincide with peak monarch migration, learn more about the amazing monarch butterfly, how to properly handle and tag butterflies, and perform additional scientific investigations. This event is appropriate for all ages 5 and up. Registration is required online at www.massaudubon.org or by calling 508-636-2437, and costs $10 for members and $12 for non-members.

Gaze at the Stars

At 8 p.m., get a closer look at the night sky at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Observatory Open House, a free event sponsored by UMass and the Astronomical Society of Southern New England. Viewing will take place through several of the  the observatory's 16-inch telescopes.  In the event of weather related cancellation, an announcement will be available around 5 PM at https://www.meetup.com/ASSNE-MA-RI/ or by calling (508) 999-8715 for a recorded message. The observatory is in the field to the right of the main entrance to campus, with parking available on Ring Road and lot 17.

Be welcomed to the jungle.

Come out to the annual Dartmouth Marching Band US Bands home show! This year's show features 10 outstanding marching bands from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for students and seniors. There will also be a full concession stand and bake sale to support the Dartmouth School Music Association. The event at Memorial Stadium will begin at 6 p.m. and run until ten, with Dartmouth performing their jungle themed show at 9:05 p.m.

Cycle for Buzzards Bay.

The Buzzards Bay Coalition is hosting their 12th annual Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride. The annual ride to raise funds for the Coalition includes a 35, 75, or 100-mile route beginning at Little Compton, Westport, or Rochester. Cyclists ages 12 and older are welcome. Jam out at the vineyard.

Solo singer and guitarist Joe Mac will play music from the 50s to the present at the Running Brook Vineyards & Winery, 335 Old Fall River Road, from 1 - 5 p.m. Joe Mac, a Mattapoisett resident, will play Rock and Roll hits through time in his signature mellow style. CDs will be available. Wine is for sale by the glass or the bottle, and those attending can bring their own snacks. Admission to the concert is free, and there will be plenty of parking.

Learn about caring for historical artifacts.

Dr. Jordan Benson, Director of Collections at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, will give a talk at the Dartmouth Historical Art Society at 1205 Russells Mills Rd. at 6:30 p.m. about taking care of historical artifacts. The Whaling Museum has a collection of objects including everything from textiles and folk art to the world’s largest ship model. A donation of $5 is suggested, and light refreshments will be served.
