Dine out and support children.

Support children’s health by eating out at several Dartmouth restaurants in a “Food for Tots” fundraiser aiming to elevate children’s access to world-class healthcare on the South Coast. Throughout the day, all proceeds from Buster’s Sports Bar & Grill, Max’s, Cask & Pig Kitchen & Alehouse, and Acushnet Creamery’s Dockside location in Dartmouth will go towards the Friends of Jack Foundation. Deal with anxiety.

The Dartmouth Special Education Parent Advisory Council will be hosting a workshop on anxiety in children and adolescents at the Potter School on 185 Cross Road from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Experienced social worker Sara Rodrigues will provide an overview of the signs of anxiety and practical strategies that can help manage anxious feelings.

Eat lobster.

The St. Julie Billiart Church will be hosting a lobster dinner at 6 p.m. Dinner will include chowder, coleslaw, chips, drinks, coffee, and strawberry shortcake. Tickets are $25, and must be purchased in advance. Call (508) 991-1590 to order tickets.

Saturday, May 18

Tour a farm.

Visit Round the Bend Farm at 92 Allens Neck Road for an Open Day starting at 10 a.m. with farm tours at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., a kid-friendly activity to make your own upcycled herb planter (before noon), and a 3 p.m. workshop on cooking with stinging nettles. Grilled meat and sandwiches will also be available to purchase, along with a variety of fresh local produce.

Learn about raptors.

The Lloyd Center will be hosting an educational event on raptors for kids aged 5+ at their location at 430 Potomska Road from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Participants will be able to learn about birds of prey, hike along the Lloyd Center trails and observe live fish hawks at the estuary. There will also be raptor-themed activities.

Please bring binoculars and pre-register online at lloydcenter.org. $5 for members ($15 for a family of four), $7 for non-members ($21 for a family).

Paint with Wool.

Transform bits of wool into art at the Dartmouth Cultural Center in the Olde Southworth Library on Elm St., 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. $40 members, $45 non-members and $15 materials fee. Registration required. Please call (508) 951-8773 to register.

Walk and meditate in nature.

The Buzzards Bay Coalition and Anchor Yoga will host a free mindfulness walk through Parsons Reserve from 11 a.m. to noon. Anchor Yoga owner Jessica Webb will lead a deliberately slow walk through the reserve with guided mindfulness meditation. No digital devices. All fitness levels are welcome to attend. See some comedy.

Laugh along and raise some money for the Dartmouth High Class of 2021 at a show from “The Portuguese Kids” comedy group from Southeastern Massachusetts tackling the funny side of growing up in an immigrant family.

Listen to chamber music.

Hear the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra play for their Chamber Music Series at “Incandescence”, a concert featuring music from Bruch, Mozart, Martinů, and Dvořák performed by Jesse Holstein and EmmaLee Holmes-Hicks on violin, Anna Griffis on viola, Leo Eguchi on cello, Reginald Lamb on bass, and Janice Weber on piano.

The concert will take place at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church at 351 Elm Street at 4 p.m. Tickets cost $20 at the door or online at www.nbsymphony.org.
