Saturday, September 21

Watch birds.

Join DNRT Land Manager Linda Vanderveer and Bill Gil of the Paskamansett Bird Club for a free walk through Smith Farm, 355 Smith Neck Rd., South Dartmouth. Participants can spot shorebirds from the viewing platform overlooking the Nonquitt marsh. For more information, call (508) 991-2289 or email info@dnrt.org.

Enjoy garlic and arts.

Round the Bend farm will be hosting a special Open Farm day starting at 10 a.m. with an artistic harvest celebration featuring unique hand-crafted wares by selected local artisans, a curated art show of farm inspired art, and a diverse selection of locally grown garlic. The festival runs until 5 p.m.

On the menu: wood-fired pizza, grass-fed beef burgers, pork sausage sandwiches and homemade vegan black bean burgers with an assortment of garlicky condiments and sides. Buzzards Bay Beers, Carolyn's Wines and Nilsa's fresh herbal tea will also be available for purchase.

An artists’ reception will be held after the festival from 5-7 p.m. For more information, call (508) 938-5127.

Soiree for furniture.

Dartmouth non-profit My Brother’s Keeper will be hosting its second annual fundraising soiree from 5 to 8 p.m. at the organization’s facility at 1015 Reed Road. 

The evening party will feature friends, food, and a three-piece jazz band under the stars. Catering by Plouf Plouf Gastronomie food truck plus live music, wine and beer tastings, and a cash bar. Business casual attire recommended.

Kayak in the moonlight.

Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust staff will take guests for a free paddle down the Slocum’s River, 5-7:30 p.m. Pass several DNRT properties, including the Slocum’s River Reserve, Barnes-Lower Cedar Island Reserve, Grosswendt Reserve, and the Upper Cedar Island Reserve.

All guests are responsible for bringing their own kayak and life vest. Additionally, attendees are required to wear a life vest and sign a waiver. Meet at the town landing. Pre-registration required. Visit dnrt.org to pre-register.

Sunday, September 22

Tour the new police station. 

The Dartmouth Police Department will host an open house at its new 1390 Tucker Road headquarters from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Police Chief Brian Levesque and members of the department will be on hand to provide tours of the building and answer questions from the community. Light refreshments will be provided.

Train for a cycle.

Anyone registered or interested in the 13th annual Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride on October 6 can get in some training miles and see some of the most beautiful stretches of the route on a 30-mile loop from Apponagansett Park in Dartmouth to Horseneck Beach in Westport and back.

Buzzards Bay Coalition Event Manager Deb Hood will answer any questions, and long-time Buzzards Bay rider Geoff Sullivan will lead the ride. Meet at the entrance to Apponagansett Park in Dartmouth. Free parking is available.

All those aged 12 or over are welcome. Participants are required to wear helmets, sign a waiver, and follow the Rules of the Road. Register at savebuzzardsbay.org/events/buzzards-bay-watershed-ride-westport-dartmouth-training-ride-sep-22-2019/.

Ride for the troops.

A convoy of motorcycles will ride through Dartmouth’s streets with a police escort in the 6th Annual Ride for the Troops sponsored by Minuteman H.O.G. Chapter 2522, starting at 9:30 a.m. at Harley-Davidson, 799 State Rd., Dartmouth.

Proceeds from the ride go to support Homes for our Troops, whose mission is to build and donate specially adapted houses to severely injured post-9/11 veterans. 

The event will open with ceremonies and culminating with a wide assortment of foods provided by several local restaurants. After the ride there will be a live band, raffles and a 50/50 drawing.  Registration will be open from 9:30-11 a.m., ceremony to follow with kickstands up at 11:30a.m. Food will be served at 1 p.m. Online registration is open until 5p.m. on 9/20. Day of event tickets will be available for purchase at the registration tables for $25 per rider and $20 per passenger.
