Beach cleanup
Every year thousands of volunteers across the state come together to clean up the coast through the COASTSWEEP initiative.
The beach cleanup is back this fall, beginning on Saturday, Sept. 21 and continuing until early November. The next Dartmouth COASTSWEEP cleanup will be at 10 a.m. on Oct. 19 at Demarest Lloyd Park, located at 115 Barneys Joy Road.
It’s time to thrive
The Dartmouth Council on Aging was recently awarded a grant for a new program called Thrive Dartmouth.
Thrive events will promote healthy living and community by building meaningful connections with others and will be held monthly in the early evening or during seasonal Saturday mornings.
The program’s first event will be on Saturday, Oct. 19 during Round the Bend Farm’s Open Farm Day.
Nanci Winterhalter, a yoga therapist, will lead the event, which starts at 10 a.m. and goes until 11:30 a.m. Participants should bring their own yoga mats.
To preregister, call the Dartmouth COA at 508-999-4717. The event will take place at the Round the Bend Farm, located at 92 Allens Neck Road.
A gourd time
Looking for a gourd way to spend a Saturday afternoon with the little ghouls?
The Dartmouth Cultural Center, located at 404 Elm Street, is hosting a pumpkin painting event Saturday, Oct. 19 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. for children ages 4 to 12 years old.
In addition to the pumpkins, the center will have face painting, cookies, cider, hot chocolate and more.
Participants are asked to sign up online to ensure there is a pumpkin waiting for everyone. Visit dartmouthculturalcenterinc.org
Spooky celebrations
Join Dartmouth Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9059 for its annual Halloween party on Saturday, Oct. 19.
There will be live music by DJ JR and guests should dress to impress for a chance to win a prize for the best Halloween costume. The event starts at 7 p.m. at 144 Cross Road.
Sunday, Oct. 20
Bacon for bookworms
Join the Claire T. Carney Library Associates for their 17th annual Author’s Brunch at UMass Dartmouth.
The Author’s Brunch starts at 12 p.m. with a brunch. Directly following the brunch, authors Alan Powers, Stephen Puleo and Jane Yolen will speak.
The event will take place at the UMass Dartmouth Marketplace, located at 285 Old Westport Road. Parking is available in lot 5.
Tickets cost $50 per person or $45 for Claire T. Carney associates members and can be purchased by calling Maria Sanguinetti at 508-991-5096 or by going online.
New partnership
Dartmouth Heritage Preservation Trust’s annual meeting on Sunday, Oct. 20 will highlight its partnership with the Waterfront Historic Area League.
The meeting’s featured speaker will be Erin Miranda, executive director at the League, which has a long history of completed historic preservation projects throughout New Bedford.
Miranda has been executive director since August 2023, bringing over 20 years of non-profit administration, programming and preservation expertise to the organization. She also leads initiatives to help use New Bedford’s historic resources to meet community needs.
The meeting is free and open to everyone and will start at 1:30 p.m. at the Low Tide Yacht Club, located at 1000 S Rodney French Boulevard in New Bedford.
