Town to host 9/11 memorial service
Next month will mark the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and The Town of Dartmouth is inviting residents to participate in an event to pay tribute to those who died that day.
The ceremony will be held Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. at Memorial Stadium and will happen rain or shine, Veteran’s Officer Matthew Broulliette said.
Members of the Veterans Advisory Board, VFW, Select Board, American Legion, and police and fire honor guards will be in attendance, according to Brouillette.
Former Dartmouth Veterans Service Officer Roy Oliveira, who happened to be working in the Pentagon that fateful day, will deliver remarks, along with Gerald Enos, whose son Peter died in Iraq in 2004 at the age of 24.
“It’s vital to remember our nation and honor our victims, including Dartmouth native Leah Oliver,” Broulliette said.
Oliver was working on the 96th floor of the World Trade Center’s north tower when American Airlines Flight 11 struck the building.
“It’s also essential for the community to come together on this day,’’ Broulliette said.
