Two Dartmouth filmmakers flicks featured in New Bedford Film Festival
NEW BEDFORD — Two familiar faces from Dartmouth will present films at the New Bedford Film Festival Thursday, April 10 to Sunday, April 13.
Julien Lee Pedro and Karen Kayer of Dartmouth will showcase their work among 98 other films.
Pedro’s “Better Than I Was” is a short about familial dynamics and personal growth. The film follows main character, Gene, who returned home to his family Thanksgiving after years of estrangement.
Kayser offers a voice to the voiceless with “Women of Truth and Courage,” a documentary featuring the plight of low-caste widowed and abandoned women in India.
Ethan de Aguiar, founder and president of the festival, said he was blown away by the response the festival had in its first year.
“We are so excited to bring you another year of beautiful films and empowering stories,” he said. “This year, we received nearly 250 submissions from not only the local area and across the U.S., but also other countries like Germany, Belgium, Iran, Australia and Korea.”
Screenings and workshops are free throughout New Bedford and seating is limited at all venues.
Non-ticket holders can gain admission on a first-come, first-serve basis five minutes before the start of each event; however, preference will be given to VIP ticket holders. To purchase tickets visit www.newbedfordfilmfestival.com.
