UMass building evacuated after elevator machine room fire

Smoke from a small fire at the Foster Administration Building at UMass Dartmouth led to the building being evacuated for close to an hour Wednesday afternoon.
Dartmouth District 3 Fire Chief Tim Arruda said the fire likely started when a motor from the elevator seized up. He said the first crew on scene quickly put out the fire.
There were no injuries reported.
"The crew knocked it down with the first truck on scene," said Arruda.
The building houses the office of administration at the University.
Arruda said fire personnel spent some time following the fire exporting smoke from the building. The building was evacuated until 2:46 p.m.
