UMass Dartmouth student receives scholarship
University of Massachusetts Dartmouth student Maia Rogers, of Bridgewater, was awarded $1,285 from the Sloane Stephens Doc & Glo Scholarship.
The scholarship was granted on March 20. Rogers is one of 22 winners across the country to be awarded part of the $27,000 amount available in the scholarship fund.
Rodgers previously earned her bachelor's degree in psychology and criminal justice studies from UMass Dartmouth. Now, she has returned to pursue a bachelor's degree in nursing with the goal of becoming a pediatric nurse.
This is a dream she says, “I have held onto since I was eighteen years old.”
Without scholarships and grants, Rogers says her dreams and goals of attending college would “otherwise be impossible” due to adversity she faced growing up in the absence of her parents.
She is proud to be a first generation college student and says, “I have an abundance of perseverance that I have and will continue to show throughout my educational journey.”
The scholarship is Funded by Sloane Stephens, whose mission is to increase and improve the opportunities available to underserved children through education and sports.
