Jun 4, 2015

A two-vehicle car crash resulted in serious injuries the evening of June 2, and an investigating officer’s foot was injured when hit by another vehicle following the accident.

While investigating the crash with part of the Dartmouth Police Crash Reconstruction Unit, an unidentified police officer sustained foot injuries when an on-call firefighter struck him with his personal vehicle. Costa said the officer was treated and released from St. Luke’s Hospital the same night.

The initial crash involved Maria Almeida, a 73-year-old woman from New Bedford, and Iska Skormo, a 41-year-old woman from Dartmouth, according to Detective Kyle Costa.

Emergency services responded to an accident in the area of 151 Chase Road around 6:00 p.m. Almeida was driving a 2003 Toyota Corolla and Skormo was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox.

As a result of the crash, Almeida was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries, Costa said. As of June 4, Almeida is in fair condition, according to a representative of Rhode Island Hospital.
