Update: Police catch man who struck officer with his car
Police have arrested a Fall River man who struck a Dartmouth police officer with his car.
Anthony Carvalho, 44, was arrested in Fall River on the morning of March 7 on warrants for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and motor vehicles offenses, police said.
Carvalho is accused of clipping Dartmouth officer Darren Emond with his car after speeding off during a motor vehicle stop on Feb. 28. He was pulled over for having an expired registration, police said.
Carvalho proceeded to lead Dartmouth police on a chase to the Westport border. Police called off the chase to ensure the safety of Westport residents.
Emond was evaluated for minor injuries and was cleared to return to work.
Police were able to make the arrest this week using information gleaned from the Dartmouth Police Department’s official Facebook page. The arrest was made by Dartmouth, Fall River and state police.
When Dartmouth police announced Carvalho was arrested on their Facebook page, the post received more than 600 likes and was shared nearly 100 times.
