VFW announces essay contest winners

Dartmouth’s Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter has announced its winners for its “Voice of Democracy” and “Patriots Pen” essay competition.

This year’s high school essay “Voice of Democracy winner” is Maxwell Orlachio — Jennifer Scott was the runner up.

For the sixth though eight grade Patriots Pen competition, this year’s winner is Annie Caroline O’Neil. Runners up were Henry Caron and Owen L. Cabral — with honorable mentions for Annica E. Dupre and Sidney Ann Almeida.

First place winners entries from both contests will proceed to District (regional) level. If successful in competition, the winners will advance to the state level. First place winner at the state level will advance to national competition where the winners from all states will compete for the national prizes ranging from $5,000 to $30,000.
