Volleyball season might be over, but that didn’t stop the hundreds of students, alumni, and teachers from taking to the courts for a tournament fundraiser at Dartmouth High School.

The tournament, organized by the Dartmouth High National Honor Society, was held as a fundraiser for Love146, a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting child trafficking and exploitation.

“Everyone submitted charities, and we decided go go with Love146 because child exploitation is such a huge issue,” explained Noah DeRossi-Goldberg, president of the school’s National Honor Society chapter.

Society members hosted the first volleyball fundraiser last year with 24 teams. This year, with even more interest, enough students, parents, teachers, and alumni signed up that he was able to bump up the tournament to 32 teams.

“It’s a fun way to help instead of just giving money,” DeRossi-Goldberg said.

Rachel Lassey, Dartmouth High's varsity volleyball coach, jumped at the chance to play in the tournament after learning that her sister was organizing a team for teachers.

“It’s for a good cause and I get to play a sport I love,” Lassey said before her team’s first match.

Seniors and lifelong friends Bret Abreu, Eric Sylvia, Dane Ashton, Ben Aaronson, Brett Medeiros, and Jacob Sylvia competed as team Mission Unblockable. Their goal was to have fun, but they did manage to win their first game 11-3.

“We’ve all been friends since the fourth grade, and we’re just here trying to finish our our senior year,” Abreu said.

“It’s for a good cause,” Sylvia added.
