Water Department recognized for energy conservation

Dartmouth’s Water Department was recognized by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection for their water service and eco-friendly efforts.

“The Baker-Polito Administration is proud to recognize our dedicated drinking water providers during National Drinking Water Week,” said Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Kathleen Theoharides. “Public water suppliers in Massachusetts, especially during the pandemic, showed great dedication and commitment to ensuring our residents have consistent access to safe, clean, healthy drinking water." 

The Water Department was recognized for its energy conservation.

Using a grant from MassDEP, the town performed pumping system upgrades to municipal drinking water wells A, B, C and D.

According to a MassDEP press release, the town installed variable frequency drives and premium energy-efficient motors and to rebuild four pumps, saving Dartmouth more than $68,000 and 375,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.
