Water main flushing program continues through June 26
The Dartmouth Water Department will be flushing water mains throughout the town from May 18 through June 26 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The object of flushing is to move water through the water mains at a high speed in order to loosen and remove deposits of iron and manganese that build up inside the pipe. Flushing disturbs sediment and can result in temporarily discolored water in your home. The department recommends customers avoid doing laundry and drawing hot water when water appears discolored due to flushing operations. If water appears discolored after 3 p.m., it is recommended that customers let the water run until it clears.
At times, homeowners will experience reduced water pressure during flushing operations due to water being diverted to the hydrants. This is a temporary condition. In the event water pressure does not return to normal after 3 p.m., the department requests customers call (508) 999-0742.
