DARTMOUTH - Wayne C. Gonsalves, 73, of Dartmouth passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Monday, September 16, 2024. He was the son of the late Charles A. Gonsalves, Jr. and Genevieve (Botelho) Gonsalves.
Born in San Diego, California, he relocated to New Bedford as a small child and later moved to Dartmouth in 2018.
He was employed as a cutter in the garment industry for Penco and Riverside Manufacturing until his retirement.
As a young teenager, Wayne was a Silver Gloves champion and also excelled in baseball from Little League to the Colt League. An avid equestrian, Wayne owned several horses over the years including "Jocko" who was his pride and joy.
He had a great love for his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughters, Kristi Mendoza and her husband, Jose of New Bedford and Jami Mello and her husband, Ian of Mattapoisett and their sister, Marissa Gill of New Bedford; 2 brothers, Bruce Gonsalves and his wife, Sharon of Dartmouth and Steven Gonsalves and his wife, Gisele of New Bedford; his former wife and mother of his children, Maria Gill and her husband Joseph; 3 grandchildren, Charlotte Mello, Harper Mello and Mason Mendoza; his niece, Tracy Silva and her husband, John; his nephew, Brett Gonsalves and his wife, Melanie; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Cody Silva, Sydney Martins, Devin Gonsalves, Morgan Gonsalves, Casey Gonsalves and a great-great-nephew, Dustin Gonsalves.
Wayne was predeceased by his brother, Charles "Chucky" Gonsalves.
Visiting hours Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. with a service to be conducted in the funeral home at 6:00 P.M. Internment is private.
