On ‘ICE detainees allegedly damaged facility over Covid testing dispute’

May 5, 2020

To the Editor:

The sheriff is fuming and has decided he can bamboozle Bristol County residents into believing the incarcerated people caused the disruption and damage; it would not surprise me to learn that the guards, under the sheriff’s direction, provoked the incident to keep the ICE detainees and others locked up while keeping the spotlight on the “hard-working” sheriff, who is protecting and keeping the community “safe.”

Sheriff Hodgson believes he is the supreme law of the land in Bristol County, and that will present problems for him among people who understand basic civics.

As long as taxpayers can read, view events through their own eyes, think critically, and reach reasonable conclusions, the sheriff will have problems. And, the more threatened Sheriff Hodgson feels, the more he lashes out in grotesque and ludicrous ways.

As the honorary chairman of President Trump’s Massachusetts re-election effort, Mr. Hodgson’s near-constant stream of lies, misinformation, obfuscations, and half-truths has systematically destroyed Bristol County’s last reserves of trust in him. A logical consequence of his irrational behavior is that residents are wary of any statements emanating from the Bristol County House of Correction.
