Southworth Library summer events

The Southworth Library will host a series of programs and performances over the course of the summer.

Literacy programs (no sign-ups required) include:

  • Literacy Lap Sit: Tuesdays at 10 a.m., the program features songs, rhymes, puppets, and instruments through a combination of Mother Goose nursery rhymes and baby songs for children up to three years old.
  • Playground/Playspace: Wednesdays at 10 a.m., children up to five can read a storybook with Miss Katie, and there will be literacy activities (drawing, sorting, counting, etc.,) that go along with the book. Families can also choose to just stay and play together in the story time room.
  • Story Time: Fridays 11 a.m., children ages three to five can take part in a traditional story time with picture books, flannel board stories and finger plays.
Performances (signups required) on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. include:

  • June 30: Atwater-Donnelly Musical Duo for children of all ages, families, adults
  • July 7: Judith Black, a story teller, is best for age four and up.
  • July 14: Ooch!, featuring yo-yo tricks, dancing, and comedy (a different show from last year’s) for children ages three to five.
  • July 21: Mary Maichack, a storyteller, is best for age four and up.
  • July 28: Live animal show, featuring bugs, lizards, a tortoise, an alligator, and a nine-foot snake, is best for age four and up.
  • August 4: The Nappy Puppets Puppet Show with Jim is best for age three and up.
  • August 11: The Science Tellers featuring storytelling with science experiments (a different show from last year) is best for age five and up.

Crafts (signups required) on Wednesdays at 2 p.m. include:

 

  • July 8: Superhero Attire, where youngsters can decorate their own superhero cape and mask, is for all ages.
  • July 15: Science of the Seasons with the Children’s Museum of Easton is good for age six and up.
  • July 22: Clay crafts, where kids can make jeweled bowls and trinket dishes, is best for age four and up.
  • July 29: Yarn crafts, where kids can make octopus dolls and tracing art with yarn, is best for ages five and up.
  • August 5: Puppet theaters, where kids can decorate their own puppet theater, is good for all ages.
  • August 12: Kids of all ages will create self-portraits, with crayons, paint, and more.

Movies (no signups required) are on Thursdays at 2 p.m. and include:

 

  • July 9: Penguins of Madagascar (rated PG)
  • July 16: Boxtrolls (rated PG)
  • July 23: Paddington (rated PG)
  • July 30: Mr. Peabody and Sherman (rated PG)
  • August 7: Annie (2015, rated PG)
