Lloyd Center to host Slocum Challenge Regatta
On Sept. 19, the Lloyd Center for the Environment will host the 10th annual Slocum Challenge Regatta.
The regatta is open to racing shells, open-water shells, kayaks, canoes, surf-skis, traditional rowing boats, whaleboats, pilot gigs and stand-up paddleboards. There will be separate age categories, and each category will have a men’s, women’s and co-ed division.
The races, a two-miles closed loop, will kick off around 9:30 a.m. Around noon, a light post-race lunch will be provided at the awards ceremony following the races at the Lloyd Center’s headquarters at 430 Potomska Road.
Entry applications are available at www.lloydcenter.org. For guaranteed acceptance, applications must be received no later than 5 p.m. on Sept. 14. A surcharge will be applied to late applications. No further applications will be accepted after 4 p.m. on Sept. 16.
The order and starting-times of all races will be finalized and posted online at www.lloydcenter.org on Friday, Sept. 18.
Entry fees are $30 per entry, plus $10 per competitor. Entry fees are not refundable. Entries may be mailed to the Lloyd Center, 430 Potomska Road, Dartmouth, MA 02748, faxed to 508-993-7868 or emailed to fcallen@lloydcenter.org.
“Slocum Challenge” long-sleeve T-shirts will be on sale to the public on race-day for $15.
All proceeds of the Slocum Challenge Regatta will benefit the Lloyd Center’s Estuary Education Programs that promote stewardship of the river.
