Dartmouth Grange to host community fair

The 2016 Dartmouth Grange Rural Community Fair will be held on Friday, September 9, 4-9 p.m., and Saturday, September 10, 12-9 p.m. Admission and entertainment is free of charge.

All kinds of agricultural exhibits, flowers, preserves, baked goods, honey & handcrafts will be displayed, along with demonstrations, carnival games, a scavenger hunt for the kids, face painting, a country store, a penny sale, entertainment and food.

On Friday, the Mud Daubers Fiddle Band will play at 5 p.m. There will also be a pie-eating contest at 6:30 p.m. and a magic show by Skip Daniels at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, the Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust (DNRT) will lead a nature walk in Destruction Brook at 11 a.m., and an heirloom tomato contest will begin at 12:30 p.m. There will be displays of alpacas from Nomquid Farm, and 4H club goats. The Paskamansett Quilt Guild will present a display of members’ quilts. Demonstrations will be about worm composting, heirloom apple varieties, antique hand tools, fly tying, cider pressing, hand quilting, rug braiding, crocheting and wool spinning. The Mud Daubers Fiddle Band will perform in the afternoon. There will be another pie-eating contest at 5:30 p.m. Winners of the penny sale will be announced at 6 p.m., followed by the Fair’s general auction.
