Yard waste collection schedule announced

Sep 14, 2016

The Town of Dartmouth has announced the schedule for curbside yard waste collection for participants of Dartmouth’s Save Money and Reduce Trash (S.M.A.R.T.) trash collection program. Monday and Tuesday solid waste collection will be on Fridays, October 21, November 4, and December 2.

Wednesday and Thursday solid waste collection will be on Fridays, October 28, November 18, and December 9.

Pick-ups begin at 7 a.m. Residents who use the S.M.A.R.T. program are asked to ensure all grass, leaves, and yard clippings are placed in biodegradable bags or loose in barrels or corrugated boxes.

The town’s leaf compost is also open to S.M.A.R.T. participants. It is located at the Water Pollution Facility, and is open on Mondays through Fridays, 7:30 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. and on Saturdays, 7:30 a.m. – 2:45 p.m.

The Water Pollution Facility and the town’s leaf compost station is located at 759 Russells Mills Road.

A valid Transfer Station sticker is required. S.M.A.R.T. customers may use the facility free of charge.

Dartmouth’s S.MA.R.T. recycling collection program began in the summer of 2012. It uses special trash trucks with automated equipment that automatically collects items in special bins using a robotic arm and mechanical equipment, instead of requiring employees to physically place trash and recycling into the truck.

The program costs $80 a year to enroll in, which provides unlimited curbside collection of recyclables and trash, access to the town transfer station, seasonal and special collections of yard waste, and curbside bulky item pickup.
