Grange welcomes winter with movie, potluck

Nov 5, 2016

The Dartmouth Grange kicked off its 2016-2017 Farmer Film and Potluck Series — scheduled for the first Friday of the Fall and Winter months — on November 4.

Now in its third year, the dinner and film gives farmers a chance to socialize in the slower season, explained organizer Sarah Cogswell. Fifteen members gathered around home cooked dishes of fried rice, bean salad, and ferments, which member Janet Rose appreciated.

"Anything that I don't have to cook is wonderful," she laughed. Member Mark Zajac agreed.

"It's a good reason to socialize. What better way to do that than with food?" he asked.

Following the meal, Cogswell played “Smokin’ Fish,” a documentary about a quirky businessman hustling to make a dollar in Juneau, Alaska. The films normally center around an agricultural or environmental theme, she said.

"I thought that's what would most resonate [with farmers]," she said.

The next film and potluck will take place on December 2, at 6 p.m. at the Grange headquarters, 1133 Fisher Road.
