UPDATE: shoplifting suspect arrested for hit and run, outstanding warrants

Dec 14, 2016

A shoplifting incident on December 13 quickly turned into a downed pedestrian and several hit and run accidents, according to Dartmouth Police.

Justin Tunney-Lassiter, 29, fled Target at 479 State Road and, in attempt to evade the police, struck a pedestrian and several cars in a 2010 red Dodge Caliber, said police.

The Fall River man fled the Target around 1 p.m., according to police, who located him shortly afterwards at Faunce Corner Road. There, Tunney-Lassiter refused to stop the vehicle and turned into the Dartmouth Mall parking lot.

While in the parking lot, Tunney-Lassiter struck a pedestrian, as well as several vehicles, before officers discontinued following him, said police.

Approximately one hour later, Tunney-Lassiter was stopped in Westport, at which time he was identified and arrested outside of Harry's General Store, located at 646 American Legion Highway, said police. Westport Police said Tunney-Lassiter had ditched a steering wheel lock device at Harry's, and purchased headache medicine before they arrested him.

Prior, Tunney-Lassiter had left the Westport Apothecary at 784 Main Road empty-handed. There, he had threatened the clerk with firearm and demanded cash and lottery tickets.

Tunney-Lassiter faces numerous charges in Dartmouth, including shoplifting and several motor vehicle offenses.

In Westport, he was charged with attempted armed robbery while masked. Tunney-Lassiter also had two outstanding warrants: one for armed robbery in Somerset in December; the second was for motor vehicle offenses and larceny from Fall River, said police.

The pedestrian who had been struck down was evaluated at the scene, and refused further treatment, said Dartmouth Police.
