Police shut down two student parties on Saturday
Police shut down two student house parties — each hosting at least 100 people — over the weekend, following noise complaints.
Officers responded to off-campus housing on Hancock Street around 11:22 p.m. on February 25, and to Duane Avenue around 12:08 a.m. the following day, according to police logs. The parties each had between 100 and 150 guests, said Detective Kyle Costa.
"We know kids getting together is a rite of passage, but when it gets out of hand, we have to get involved," he said.
One minor in possession of alcohol was arrested, Costa added. Party-goers dispersed accordingly, and there were no other issues, he added.
Costa posted the town bylaws to social media as a reminder that loud radio, musical instruments, and televisions, shouting and whistling, and/or devices that attract attention can incur up to $300 in fines.
