Truck fire ignites in front of New York Bagel

A car burst into flames after its owner stopped to get breakfast on the morning of March 23.

A red Dodge pickup truck was fully engulfed in flames in the New York Bagel parking lot when District No. 3 firefighters arrived around 6:37 a.m.

Captain Corey Pimental said that although the fire only took about five minutes to extinguish, there was too much damage for the owner to drive his vehicle off the property.

"[The driver] said his truck was smoking when he stopped," said Pimental.

The fire additionally caused some damage to the building because the vehicle was parked under the overhang, said Pimental.

The cause of the fire was left undetermined following the investigation, said Pimental. He said it was definitely a mechanical issue with the truck, however.

There were no reported injuries.
