Helfand Farm Community Gardens offering plot rentals
Beginning its fifth year of operation, Helfand Farm Community Gardens is offering plot rentals for the 2017 season. Plots are available for residents and organizations from any town.
The organic-only community garden offers 10-by-20 square-foot plots for $55 per year and half plots for $30. Seventy-three plots were rented in 2016.
The gardens include off-street parking, a picnic table, shared tools, and water faucets for every four garden plots. Rototilling, compost, organic fertilizer, and individual compost bins are all available for a small fee.
The group also offers free gardening workshops throughout the season. Workshops are open to the public and fulfill the gardens’ purpose of spreading knowledge of how to produce healthy food using environmentally sustainable methods. In addition to growing food for their friends and families, gardeners also grow vegetables for local soup kitchens on a specially-designated plot. For more information, visit helfandgardens.com.
