John Leroy Lewis, 74, of South Dartmouth, passed away on June 2, 2017. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William John Lewis, the husband of the late Janice B. Lewis and father of the late David E. Lewis.

He was born in New Castle, PA and lived in Milford, CT and Vestal, NY until moving to Dartmouth in 1977. He was a member of the Congregational Church of South Dartmouth and active in the local Civil War Club.

Lewis was a graduate of New Wilmington, PA High School in 1961, Florida State University with a degree in business and the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth with his MBA in 1981. He was employed by the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth from 1977 until his retirement in 2000.

Survivors include his companion, Nancy Jordan; his daughters, Marnie M. Leighton of Amherst, NH and Raegan S. Zerilli of Apollo Beach, FL., their spouses Jon P. Leighton and Anthony J. Zerilli; grandchildren Rily and Evan Koch, Kyle and Cohen Leighton, Aria and Antonia Zerilli; a sister, Ann Lewis of Largo, FL and his extended Boyer family in PA.

His funeral service will be held on June 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Congregational Church of South Dartmouth, 17 Middle St. Burial is private.
