Dartmouth's senior football players sound off about high school careers

Seniors on the Dartmouth High School football team are relishing their last season playing for the Indians.

Dartmouth Week recently caught up with some of the players for a look back and a look forward.

 

Andrew Ponte, running back and outside linebacker

What is one of your favorite memories playing football at DHS?

My favorite memory was playing in the mud my freshman year.

Where are you hoping to attend college and for what major?

I want to go to the Berklee College of Music for music education.

Do you play any other sports or do any extracurricular activities?

I race motorcross, I am in the jazz band at school, and I also ski and snowboard.

Why did you start playing football?

My two older brothers played and they told me I would have fun if I played....and they were right.

What will you miss most about DHS football when you graduate?

I will miss the jitters I get before Friday night games and all the little things about football that make it so fun.

Where is one of your favorite places to go in Dartmouth?

Naughty Dawgs

 

Connor Moniz, middle linebacker

Do you play any other sports?

Yes, I play baseball and track

Do you plan to play football in college?

Yes, if any colleges are interested. I got some interest from Curry [College in Milton].

What will you miss most about DHS?

The town community.

 

Dane Ashton, wide receiver

How old were you when you started playing football?

I was around six or seven.

What is one of your favorite memories playing football at DHS?

The Superbowl in 2015/2016 and just the team and our bond.

Will you play football in college?

Maybe, I have had some offers, but I'm just not sure yet.

 

Will Wheaton, offensive linebacker

Why did you start playing football?

I was overweight and I needed to lose some.

Where are you hoping to attend college and for what major?

I want to go to Wentworth [Institute of Technology in Boston] for engineering.

What will you miss most about DHS football?

I'll miss the bond with all my brothers.

 

Chase Werner, middle linebacker

Where is one of your favorite places to go in Dartmouth?

I like to go to the beach.

Where are you hoping to attend college and for what major?

I want to go to UMass Amherst to study health sciences.

Do you want to play football in college?

Yes I do because I love the sport.

Why did you start playing football?

I loved watching my cousin play, so I started playing.

Will you be playing football in college?

Yes I plan to because I really love football.

Where is your favorite place to go in Dartmouth?

Friendly Pizza or just hanging out at a friends house.
