William "Bill" Whipp, 91

William "Bill" Whipp died at home on October 26, 2017 in Dartmouth, MA following a long illness. He was 91.

Mr. Whipp was born on January 23, 1926, in Fall River, MA and grew up on 4th Street which was also known as Corky Row.

In 1942, at the age of 18, Mr. Whipp was drafted into the U. S. Army and was assigned to the 385th Regiment, 76th Division – Company E as the company's sole Combat Intelligence S-2 Scout, where he ran forward observation posts working behind enemy lines. During one intelligence operation in which he was trying to locate German artillery, Mr. Whipp was trapped behind enemy lines and had to spend the night evading the enemy. Mr. Whipp was a recipient of the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars.

Upon returning home, Mr. Whipp spent his entire career working in various aspects of the construction industry holding positions including laborer, equipment sales, estimator, manufacturing concrete products, real estate agent, and clerk of the works.

Upon moving to Dartmouth more than sixty years ago, Mr. Whipp dedicated much of his time serving in numerous capacities in the Town of Dartmouth to include the Board of Appeals, Town Meeting Member, Town Hall and High School Building Committees. He also served on the Town of Dartmouth Veterans Committee.

Mr. Whipp is survived by his wife Cecelia, his sister Eilee, and his five children, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Interment was at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
