Southcoast Behavioral Health names new medical director

Southcoast Behavioral Health announced it has appointed Michael I. Liebowitz, MD, as Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director of the Faunce Corner Road facility.

Dr. Liebowitz perviously served as Chief of Psychiatry for both inpatient and outpatient services at High Point Hospital in Middleboro. Before that, he worked at High Point’s Plymouth location, serving as Chief of Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine Dual Diagnosis for both inpatient and outpatient services.

He is certified by both the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Addiction Medicine, and is licensed in both Massachusetts and Connecticut.

His education includes a B.A. at State University of New York at Stony Brook, an M.D. at Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, New York, and psychiatry residency training at Brown University's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at Butler Hospital in Rhode Island.

He will head the clinical management of patients at the 581 Faunce Corner Road facility, which includes a 120-bed inpatient psychiatric hospital. He will also aid in developing and reviewing hospital treatment philosophies, programs, services, and policies.

Southcoast Behavioral Health is hosting a public meet-and-greet event on Friday, January 12, 2-4 p.m. at 581 Faunce Corner Road in Dartmouth to introduce Dr. Liebowitz to the community.
