Dartmouth High winter guard brought its twist on Adam and Eve to its home town at the NESBA Home Show on February 24.

Hosted at Dartmouth High School, it gave the winter guard the opportunity to perform its Lilith of Eden show before the community. The performance earned the winter guard a 79.50-point finish.

The show is a retelling of Adam and Eve, but it also incorporates Lilith, the first wife of Adam. Anthony Cabral came up with the idea to incorporate the story after learning this year’s winter guard featured a male performer.

Cabral designed the show in several segments to flow the story. The show spends a few minutes to define all of the characters and introduce the audience to the story, then a fast-tempo musical number and fast movement to symbolize temptation to take the fabled poison apple. After contemplation, the apple is finally eaten, and the show abruptly ends.

This season, the winter guard is competing at a higher competitive level, owing to earning silver in the Winter Guard International competition last year. Now the winter guard competes in an intermediate-level open class.

“We’re midway through the season right now, so there’s still more work to do before [finals] in April in Ohio,” Cabral said, adding that refinements will occupy the winter guard’s time the most.

The high school indoor percussion ensemble also performed at the event, scoring a 86.85 from judges.
