Freshly squeezed fun during Lemonade Day

May 5, 2018

Young entrepreneurs across Dartmouth spent May 5 working hard at their lemonade stands.

It was all part of Lemonade Day, which began four years ago in the greater Fall River area to teach kids about running a business. It’s since expanded across the South Coast. In Dartmouth, there were 12 stands out of 66 spread across town, from State Road to Dartmouth Street and Horseneck Road.

On Tucker Road, Annie and Teagan Witzig set up their vegan lemonade stand to raise funds for the Dartmouth Middle School Destination Imagination team. The team is traveling to Knoxville, Tennessee for the global finals from May 23 to May 26.

Destination Imagination allows students to mix science, technology, engineering and math with arts education and social enterprising.

Teammate Teagan Witzig, was happy to see all of the people stopping by to buy a cup of lemonade, water or candy.

“It’s really cool people stopped by and got our lemonade,” she said.

A little bit further down the way on Slocum Road was Icy Made Lemonade run by Mya Acevedo. The profits from her stand went both to her dance competitions and to the Ronald McDonald House, which provides comfort and aid to children who are sick.

For Acevedo, learning to run her own business was the best part of the whole event.

“You can just do anything and live your dream,” Acevedo said.
