A brightly colored lemonade stand being run by two Dartmouth kids raising money for charity can be spotted as drivers make their way down Lexington Avenue.

The stand, operated by 8-year-old Zoe Macedo and her 5-year-old brother Max Macedo, is being used to raise money to donate to The Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services. The organization provides free or low cost legal services to immigrants in central and south Texas.

Their mom, Stephanie Macedo, said the idea to sell lemonade came about after she talked to the kids about various things happening in the world today. One issue they discussed was the separation of children from their family members at the border.

“The kids wanted to help do something and so we thought a lemonade stand was something age appropriate that they could do to raise money,” she said.

After their first day in business the kids saw about 15 customers stop by and raised a total of $128.75. Zoe Macedo’s goal now is to raise a total of $250. The stand will be open on June 26 and 27 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The kids are also selling cookies.
