Planning Board candidate profile: Dr. Nicholas Psichopaidas

Dr. Nicholas Psichopaidas said his reason for running for Dartmouth’s Planning Board is the same as why he’s a chiropractic physician: to serve the people.

“My personal and professional life have aligned enough where I can attempt to give back and contribute to our community,” he said. “And that is my goal.”

Psichopaidas currently works as the primary physician at the Harbor Chiropractic Group located on Route 6. He founded the practice in 2001 following his graduation from Life Chiropractic College in Georgia.

It’s a career, he said, in which one has to be very attentive — a skill he plans to bring to the Planning Board if elected. He added that along with learning how to treat a patient's neuromusculoskeletal system, he has had a long interest in land development and real estate.

One of the main goals he hopes to accomplish is to “put Dartmouth on the map” while retaining its charm. Much like his opponent Steve Taylor, Psichopaidas would like to see the board focus on revitalizing and building upon Dartmouth’s general business district along Route 6.

“There's a way to measure progress without changing the vistas that seem so important to many,” he said.

Along with new business space, he said this revitalization could be done through the addition of mixed use buildings, apartments, and senior housing.

“It needs to be well thought out if it’s going to put [Dartmouth] on the map long term,” he said. “What happens out Route 6 moving west from Walmart will likely be there for the next 50 to 100 years.”

The longtime Dartmouth resident also would like to see zoning bylaws that allow “more people to stay and come back” to town.

“They should be able to raise their family somewhere in Dartmouth and potentially build a home,” he said. “Zoning is variable.”

Most of all, he said, his vision is all about “sustainable growth with the future in sight.”
