‘Bear necessities’: DNRT shares safety tips after Dartmouth black bear sighting

The Dartmouth Natural Resource Trust announced on Friday, June 28, a black bear sighting has been reported at Destruction Brook Woods, which is between Fisher and Slade’s Corner roads, near Russells Mills Village.
The DNRT advises community members to keep their dogs on a leash and to be aware of their surrounds.
According to the DNRT, black bear attacks are uncommon and they rarely become aggressive when encountered.
If an encounter with a black bear were to occur, people are advised to talk loudly in a calm voice and back away slowly. Do not approach the bear.
