Dartmouth’s Tyler Dow Baglini, 31, is facing murder charges in connection to the Friday, Sept. 20 stabbing homicide on Atlantic Street in New Bedford, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced on Saturday, Sept. 21.

The victim, Kerri Fidalgo, 31, was living in an apartment at the 86 Atlantic Street address and worked at the New Bedford Third District Court in the Probation Department, according to the police report. Just before 5 p.m. on Friday, New Bedford Police responded to reports of a stabbing, finding Fidalgo, they rushed her to Saint Luke’s Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.

Earlier in the day New Bedford Police received a call that reported Baglini at Saint Luke’s Hospital claiming a serial killer murdered his girlfriend. At the time, Baglini was holding a large kitchen knife with “red brown staining consistent with blood,” according to the police report.

Baglini was placed into custody shortly after the incident and was held overnight at Saint Luke’s for psychiatric evaluation, Quinn said.

When detectives attempted to speak with him he was “argumentative and behaving erratically,” according to the police report. He again told detectives “serial killers killed his girlfriend,” but also that “his pride got in the way.”

Text messages between the two reveal following Baglini’s June release from jail, Fidalgo informed him she was “unhappy” with the relationship, having to cloth, feed and take care of him, according to the police report.

Baglini was “seemingly paranoid” in his responses and threatened to kill himself, according to the police report. In the messages, Fidalgo attempted to reason with him and encouraged Baglini to seek help and take his medication.

On Friday morning, Sept. 20, Fidalgo text messaged Baglini’s mother, Deborah Dow-Baglini, admitting she didn’t feel safe around her son and informing her of his threats to hurt his roommate. Deborah told Fidalgo to “ignore him” and informed her he was in the hospital.

Baglini is being held without the option to bail out. He will appear at the New Bedford District Court next on Friday, Oct. 11 for a status review.
