Earth is an unpredictable planet to live on, with threats like Mount Vesuvius and Hurricane Katrina.
Join Matt Davis, a researcher and lecturer, as he explores why people live in risky places, the psychological factors affecting preparation for potential disasters and factors that can help in disaster recovery.
The event is being held on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. at the North Branch Library, located at 211 Cross Road.
During the talk he will draw on his studies at Mount Vesuvius and Mount Rainier, his experiences with Hurricane Katrina and his work on hurricane preparedness in California. He will also cover disaster preparations and recovery.
The event is being hosted by the Friends of the Dartmouth Public Libraries and is free and open to the public.
