Learn about the life and work of Eudora Welty, an American writer and photographer who was born in 1909, at the Dartmouth Cultural Center.

On Thursday, Oct. 9, Laura Bailet of Dartmouth will share her personal collection of Welty’s photographs, along with her insights into literary and photographic themes present across Welty’s body of work.

While working for the Works Progress Administration, Welty traveled throughout Mississippi during the 1930s. She wrote newspaper articles and captured black-and-white images of people, landscapes and everyday life during the Great Depression.

Welty is generally best known for her Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “The Optimist’s Daughter” and other works of fiction and nonfiction, though her photography has also earned critical acclaim.

Bailet’s presentation will display a rare collection of 20 of Welty’s photos, along with selected excerpts from her writing.

This event will take place at the Dartmouth Cultural Center at 404 Elm Street beginning at 7 p.m.

Admission costs $10, and tickets can be purchased at Dartmouthculturalcenterinc.org.
