Celebrating The Winter Garden

Event Date

DartmouthJoin the Friends of the Dartmouth Libraries on Thursday, November 13, at 6:30 p.m. to hear well-known landscape horticulturist and author Warren Leach for a celebration of the winter garden, a source of beauty and enjoyment.  The winter landscape may be quiescent, but the garden need not be bleak.  Plants with brightly colored berries, twigs, stems, foliage, and even winter-blooming flowers shrug off the snow and cold.  Mr. Leach will showcase gardens he has designed that celebrate the winter season as well as planting design ideas for local gardens.  The presentation will be held at Southworth Library.

For more than thirty-five years, Warren Leach has been creating beautiful landscapes throughout New England as well as making captivating and educational display gardens at Tranquil Lake Nursery in Rehoboth.  He is co-owner of this specialty nursery and a prominent grower of daylilies, iris, distinctive perennials, and woody plants.

Mr. Leach is an award-winning landscape designer, twice receiving the National Landscape Association Regional Certificate of Merit for Residential Landscape Design.  He has taught horticulture and landscape design at numerous horticultural institutions throughout the Northeast including: The University of Rhode Island, the Brown University Learning Community, Rhode Island School of Design Continuing Education, the Scott Arboretum of Swarthmore College, the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University, Horticulture Magazine, and Radcliffe. Mr. Leach’s latest book, Plants for the Winter Garden, published by Timber Press, was released on November 5, 2024, and will be available for purchase.

Mr. Leach’s presentation will be held at Southworth Library, an accessible facility, which is located at 732 Dartmouth Street, Dartmouth.  For more information, please e-mail fodl.libraries@gmail.com.
